Question

How can we utilize and update the data we gathered over the years through acquisitions?

Challenge
 In the course of the client's growth phase it had acquired more than a decade worth of antiquated production data. An additional challenge was to design a data repository that enabled the client to manage past and future consolidations of their customers. Besides streamlining the analysis and reporting tasks (e.g., their customers required the reports to be in MS-Excel format), the client needed to exploit the synergies the acquisitions were meant to provide.

Solution

We designed a new database with a backwards-compatible data structure and incorporated all the special characteristics of the client's business environment. Furthermore, we built a multi-tier business application in order to easily accommodate future enhancements. A well rounded reporting module enabling customized batch reports in printed as well as spreadsheet form was key for high user acceptance.

Outcome

The client is now able to create and generate reports that accommodate its management style and fit the needs of its customers. All that can now be accomplished by account personnel in about 20% of the time it used to take.
